The trend right now in the hip hop world is to have a protégé. Diddy started things off when he discovered Cassie. Then 50 Cent got his start when Eminem found him. Jay-Z is responsible for Rihanna getting her start, and, most recently, the uber-famous Lady GaGa has Akon to thank for her success.
The latest protégé to get signed is Jayden Maria, who got picked up by Universal Motown Records. Her single is entitled “Good Girls Like Bad Boys,” featuring Flo-Rida. Not a bad way to get started!
Ne-Yo calls his discovery “Smart as a whip, pretty as a porcelain doll, and talented as all hell!!”
He adds: “A sweet tone, a gorgeous smile, a bubbly yet strong persona—not to mention a rather strong pen game—made Jadyn Maria just what I was looking for. It’s these attributes that will also make her a name you will remember.”
Jadyn got her start through a meeting with Tango, co-founder of Ne-Yo’s Compound Entertainment management company. She was immediately sent to Atlanta, where she was put to work in the recording studio with producer Chuck Harmony.
Days later, Jadyn Maria received the call that changed her life: It was Ne-Yo, saying, “Hi Jadyn, this is Ne-Yo. I just wanted to let you know I heard the songs you just recorded and I would like to sign you as an artist.”
Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone said in a statement, “It’s the greatest validation of a new artist’s talent to earn the praises of a fellow artist who has already made it to the top of the game, so it speaks volumes that Ne-Yo has chosen Jadyn as his very first signing.
"Jadyn is a fantastic singer and gifted songwriter who really stands apart from the pack of new female artists with enormous charisma, a unique personal style, and a sassy edge. It gives me great pleasure to welcome Jadyn Maria into the Universal Motown family.”
