Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have officially called it quits, releasing a joint statement on Friday:
“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved. And we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”
The American Idol judge has been producing a TV talent contest, Q’Viva! The Chosen with Anthony. No word on how, if at all, the divorce will affect the schedule of the show's release.
Lopez and Anthony have been friends since the 90s dating briefly. There was some speculation that Anthony had left his former wife to date Lopez, and there have also been rumors of infidelity in his marriage with with Lopez. Sources say that trust issues are what ultimately led to the couple’s divorce.
The two married in a small ceremony in 2004 at their Beverly Hills home. Only a year ago, Anthony and Lopez renewed their vows.
“We realized the bets in Vegas [on whether we’d make it] stopped at five years,” Anthony joked at the time.
The couple has two children together. This will be Lopez’s third divorce. She married Ojani Noa in 1997 and Cris Judd, a backup dancer, in 2001. She also famously ended her engagement to actor Ben Affleck in 2004.
