When did Joe Jonas join the Backstreet Boys? I'm so serious. His new music is like white boy R&B, therefore the closest thing I can compare it to is New Kids On the Block or Backstreet Boys? Is Nick Carter giving him voice lessons? And I'm not complaining, Joe Jonas' new music is super nostalgic for me, whether he intended it or not.
Joe debuted the world premiere of his new single, "Just In Love" with Ryan Seacrest on Kiis FM this morning. His sound has completely departed from the stuff he used to do with his brothers. His last single, the Chris Brown assisted track "See No More" sounds just like a Chris Brown song and his new single, "Just In Love" instantly creates images of boy bands sitting on stools, choreography with chairs, and tear-away adidas track pants.
Joe told Ryan the story behind the single, "I am very excited to premiere my new single 'Just In Love' for you guys. This is a song I wrote when I was going through a relationship with somebody. She's arguing with me, and all I could do was say 'Listen, I love you, but we don't need to go through this.'"
Joe also opened up to Rolling Stone about the much more personal nature of his solo album than any of his Jonas Brothers music, "I wanted to be able to create something that spoke volumes about what I've gone through the past few years," says Joe.
"To put it all out there and just be that vulnerable is not always easy, but I was really happy with the outcome."
Joe also dropped a teaser clip for the video earlier this week. The teaser is a 45 second short film that features Joe frolicking around a bed with a foreign girl and being sad about going home which I'm sure is a scene from a Sofia Coppola film.
Joe talks up the vid, "We shot the video in Paris and I can't wait to share it with the world."
This video is another reason why Joe is no longer the lovesick teen from the Jonas Brothers that we thought we knew. In the video, he is rolling around a bed SHIRTLESS and the girl is wearing UNDERWEAR and a TANK TOP! Which is so PG-13 from the boy who once flashed his purity ring at paparazzi.
I don't know what he is suggesting in his new boudoir-style video but they definitely aren't playing paddy-cake under the sheets. Okurrr.
The full video for "Just in Love" will debut on Monday night on E! News, where I will be hosting a viewing party that will involve symbolically destroying cake-pops that are made to look like purity rings.
