Justin Timberlake has been out of the music scene for some time now, but now he thinks he wants to combine his first love (music) and his new occupation (actor) and star in a musical of some sort.
He stopped by David Letterman to talk about the future of his career and says, I want to be in a musical! However, he says he wants it to be a modern take on the classic musical.
"That's been discussed," says JT, "I would love to do a musical one day. I think there might be a way to redefine what that is for this era...My problem with musicals today, and I think a lot of people in my generation probably feel this way too, is that we're sitting here having a conversation and all of the sudden we're singing. Time stops."
So what does he suggest a musical do instead? Singing WHILE doing thing? Because Taylor Swift already has the monopoly on that kind of music. I'm wearing shorts and sitting on the bleachers...That's what she sings about, right?
I'm actually surprised that Justin hasn't already starred in a musical. Oh sorry, I'm confusing "musical" with every appearance of Justin on SNL where he forces his falsetto into every skit. Even the political ones.
This is interesting news. I'm sure you don't follow JT's career as closely as the average celeb blogger, so let me educate you. Just this morning JT told the new issue of Esquire that he wants to take a break from, well, everything. He basically wants to take a break from Hollywood, a sort of pre-retirement if you will.
"I think you can work and work and work and never really live. The plan is to have no plan. I'll probably travel, but I'd rather be spontaneous. I feel like I've earned at least a little bit of time to do that," says the actor/singer/mogul/Jessica Biel's booty call.
Maybe he's so tired from all the work that he doesn't know what he wants. The other Justin (Justin Bieber) announced a couple months ago that he was taking a break to have time to be a kid, but then he ended up going on a world tour, busting out a Holiday album and rapping on a Chris Brown track. This just proves that Justin is the hardest working name in Hollywood.
However, Justin says that if he retired today he'd be really proud of all he's accomplished.
"After I turned 30, I started asking myself questions. The only validation I crave now is to be inspired in the same way I've always been. That's all I really owe myself at this point. It I stopped now, I could look at everything I've done and be so proud," reveals Justin.
I'm proud of him too. What other N'SYNC bandmate has enjoyed the same kind of career as Justin Timberlake? Chris Kirkpatrick? Who's that?
You know, it's not all that weird to retire in your 30's. Lil Wayne just announced to GQ that he plans to retire at the age of 35. Hopefully he has zero plans to star in a musical. I don't know if they world is ready for that yet.
