Justin Timberlake has released "Mirrors," a new single from his soon-to-be released LP.
Following his Grammy performance, JT tweeted at his fans: “See Justin's Grammy performance? Preorder The 20/20 Experience on iTunes + download the new song Mirrors!”
"Mirrors" delivers a brief intro of organ synths that gives way to beat-boxing clap bass hits, layered vocals and some crisp production. The song breaks down twice—once at the 4-minute mark, and again at 5:24—in the impressively lengthy 8-minute track.
The song’s title comes from the chorus line:
“It's like you're my mirror, my mirror staring back at me/ I couldn't get any bigger/ With anyone else beside of me.”
Following his recent marriage to actress Jessica Biel, the song has fans guessing that the lyrics must be an ode to his new life partner.
At a launch event for mPowering Action Mobile Platform, Stereotude caught up with longtime recording tycoon Timbaland, who served as producer on every track of Justin’s forthcoming album, The 20/20 Experience, including “Mirrors.”
The super-producer was tight-lipped about what to expect from the rest of 20/20, telling us, “You'll have to wait and see. It's gonna be great.”
Timbaland recently signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. The high-powered rap duo has collaborated as far back as 1998, partnering on Jay-Z’s album Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life.
“Me and Jay have always been friends,” says Timbaland. “I only do business with friends. We're good friends ... We always had ventures together, but we just had to make it public.”
The 20/20 Experience is due out on March 15, 2013.
