Katy Perry covers “Ni—as in Paris” and raps!? Shut up. I suddenly have so much respect for Katy Perry. Whenever a white chick records a rap song, they immediately gain like all this street cred.

Katy Perry decided to cover the very popular Watch The Throne hit “Ni--as in Paris” during her appearance on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s “Live Lounge.”

Bold move Katy. Mostly because everyone loves this song, so if you suck at it, you fail hard. Ball so hard or fail so hard? Katy is kind of ballin’ out of control you guys, but I also think Taylor Swift is a “good rapper” so my priorities are kind of whack.

Surprisingly, Katy is really good. But what do I know? I think Drake is “hood.” Katy altered some of the explicit lyrics and put her own spin on the chorus and gave the whole thing a real acoustic vibe. Also, she kind of sounds like Jessie J now a little bit, right?

Before she launched into the song, Katy threw on a Yankees cap, cuz you know, that’s what you do when you rap. She then dove into the performance after announcing, “This is about to get real embarrassing.”

Whatever Katy, you’ve been perfecting that “What she order? Fish Filet” line since you heard the song, don’t lie.

Later, Katy told MTV, “I definitely was not rapping” regarding her performance, just in case people want to hate on her, this is like, her disclaimer.

Is Katy just the latest in pop stars attempting to rap? Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez have all tried their hand at “rapping.” Chris Brown’s rap mixtape wasn’t so bad, but we all still collectively hate that guy right? Because of the Rihanna thing?

Justin Bieber raps under the moniker, Shawty Mane, and it’s like when your little cousin wants to show you his rap youtube videos at Christmas. It’s mostly annoying but you also want to hold onto it for future blackmail.

And then Selena Gomez covering Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass” was basically just a less obnoxious version of those little girls that are always featured on The Ellen DeGeneres show.

So what do you think? Is Katy Perry’s cover the best thing ever? What are Kanye and Jay-Z going to think of it?
