I’m paraphrasing, but Katy Perry just said that her upcoming, impending, yet-unwritten, still unconfirmed duet with Rihanna will be better than Beyonce and Shakira’s 2007 song “Beautiful Liar.”
That’s a pretty loaded statement for a collabo song that hasn’t even been made yet!
Katy told UK’s Radio 1 that she wants her duet with Rihanna to be iconic and powerful, rather than sexy like “Beautiful Liar.”
“I was telling her,” says Katy, “you know the Eurythmics song featuring Franklin, ‘Sisters are Doing it for Themselves,’ That’s like the kind of song which I’d like to do, rather than like ‘Beautiful Liar.’”
Well, we all love and listen to “Sisters are Doing it for Themselves” on repeat! Wait, what song is that? Itunes wasn't even invented when that Eurythmics song came out!
Anyways, Katy backtracks her comments about the Beyonce and Shakira’s song, “Although that is still a great song…I loved that but I definitely want to do something which is iconic.”
Here are more deets on the Katy/Rihanna duet.
“Rihanna and I collaborate on a lot of things, just not song yet. We have a great friendship,” says Katy, “It’s one of those things where it’s gotten so much build up that if we don’t deliver, like, the best song….”
Basically, what if Katy and Rihanna team up and the song turns out to be just like that Justin Bieber and Rascal Flatts duet aka Baaaaadddd.
“We’re both busy, but we planted a seed two years ago, we’re just looking for that special one. How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it wasn’t that good?” says Katy, “So sometimes you have to wait for greatness.”
Last week, Rihanna also teased about the duos upcoming song. So it’s definitely happening, it just might take forever.
