Russell Brand proposed to Katy Perry while the then-couple were vacationing in India. The in October 2010 the pop star exchanged vows with Russell in a lavish Hindu ceremony. Now Katy is returning back to the country to perform a pop concert for the opening ceremony of cricket’s Indian Premier League in Chennai on April 3rd.
Nothing makes more sense for an Indian cricket league than a Katy Perry performance. I mean, I don’t know why Rihanna doesn’t play at more polo matches or why Jennifer Lopez isn’t performing at every yacht club.
Perry tells DesiHits!, “I know that everyone in India has waited for a very long time for me to come and perform professionally.”
But have they though? Has “everyone in India” really been waiting a “very long time” for Katy Perry, because I feel like everyone in India was definitely not patiently refreshing the ticketmaster website waiting for Katy Perry tickets to go on sale.
“I’ve enjoyed India on my own time personally,” says Perry, “and now it’s time to give back to the fans.”
“I’m really excited to be a part of something really big in India and to soak up all the culture and beauty that is India, and to learn about the country and the people, and just have an incredible experience,” says Perry.
Katy and India actually go well together. India is the home of Bollywood, which is over-the-top, extravagant, and a fan of wild costumes, so it’s no surprise Katy is a huge fan.
“I’m hoping that I can bring some Western love to Bollywood and then take home some Bollywood to the Western world,” says Perry.
