“You can’t be in this business if you don’t have a backbone, it just won’t work,” says Keana Texeira, known better simply as Keana, says on the set of her latest music video, "Candy From Strangers." Even at 18, she has plenty of backbone. Given the amount of success she has attained it's required.
Keana came up with the video’s key element, candy, as well as the concept of a “cool story” about a mysterious and supernatural visitor, who offers up tasty sweets. “Instead of giving you cavities, it gives you insight into the world of a stranger” she says.
Even though the young singer is dropping catchy singles and has a devoted fanbase, she is still a regular girl. She enjoys scary movies–The Strangers, Jeepers Creepers and The Ring are some of her favorites–and she's addressing the changes that come with growing up.
“Since I’m 18 I’m trying to express more of myself into my songs,” she says. She hopes to demonstrate this on her debut album, which is currently in the works.

On growing up, both in life and in her music, Keana says, “I think as you get older, as you grow, your style definitely changes. When I listen to my songs from when I was 14 or 15, I would never do those songs now. But I think it’s a part of growing up, like I don’t regret doing that because I wouldn’t be where I am right now”
The fans are what keep Keana going. “I’m making songs because I love it," she says. "It’s definitely like I can’t see myself doing anything else other than this, but I do it for myself and I do it for the fans that support me.”
