If you’re a Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood super fan then you weren’t exactly surprised when you saw the inaugural “American Idol” winner cover the other “American Idol” winner because you follow both on Twitter and saw this little exchange online:
@carrieunderwood girl I'm covering Blown Away tonight for my fan request song and it is my favorite! I love how dark it is! Very cool song!

Kelly’s been on something of a hot streak where cover songs are concerned. Then again, she was discovered on the “American Idol” stage which is the pinnacle of over-glorified cover song performances, so this is like returning back to basics here for the pop star.
Anyway, The “Since U Been Gone” singer has been sprinkling fan-requested songs from other artists across the musical spectrum into her Stronger world tour all year long. No really, all musical genres… Have you seen her sing-rap “Lose Yourself” by Eminem at her Detroit show in August? Seriously. Kelly Clarkson belting Eminem in a grey hoodie sweatshirt like a “Texas to thug, y’all” (her words). Take a moment.
The latest in this series of tribute songs is something less extreme and more similar to the singer’s current musical sensibilities. She did her own rendition of Carrie’s “Blown Away,” a rich country ballad that appeals to Kelly’s own “Dark Side.” The song was “requested quite a bit,” she said on stage, but that she “just trying to wait,” wanting to “change up the production of it” first. Like Carrie on her own version, Kelly blows it away, commanding every illustrious verse and vocal run.
