Sometimes I think to myself, “There aren’t enough singing competition shows on television” and when that happens, the universe answers my call by putting another reality show singing competition on TV! Oh joy, we need more of those! Don’t make any real TV shows ever again! Sarcasm aside, the summer is about to see a new singing competition show in it’s line-up.
Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke, Lionel Richie and “Sugarland” singer Jennifer Nettles will all be starring on new ABC reality show, “Duets.”
The show is kind of like “The Voice” in that celebrity talent is paired up with hopeful contestants, but unlike “The Voice” the famous people actually sing with their protégés.
The four superstars will head out across the country to find two singers to be their duet partners and each week the new talent will perform with their superstar partner and perform in front of a live studio audience.
“The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people I believe in, sing with them every week and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing I can’t wait to be a part of,” Clarkson says in a press release.
“For me it’s to give this young artist a chance,” says Thicke and then jokes, “As long as my partner thinks I’m really incredible, then we’re gonna get along.”
It seems like a show with only 8 contestants, and by the end one singer will win a recording contract with Hollywood Records and then fade into obscurity like all the other winners of singing competition shows!
Hey, I’m just calling it like it is. Do you remember Javier Colon? Heard a song from Melanie Amaro yet? My point exactly.
