Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" Topping Charts, Causing a Stir

Ke$ha is no stranger to controversy. But that’s sort of what makes us like her.

Her brand new song “We R Who We R,” an ode to victims of bullying and harassment, has become an instantaneous hit, taking the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

This makes Ke$ha the first female artist to have a single debut at No. 1 on the singles chart since Britney Spears scored gold with “3? back in 2009. Ke$ha succeeds Eminem as the latest artist to earn such an accomplishment since the May release of “Not Afraid.”

This marks the “Tik Tok” hitmaker’s fifth Billboard Hot 100
Top 10 single in a row! Only 17 songs have debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 since the chart’s inception and Ke$ha joins the ranks of superstars such as Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Britney Spears and Whitney Houston who share the honor.

But enough of the positive! The other reason people can’t shut up about her right now is because her music video is apparently a little controversial.

Ke$ha: I'm Still Proving Myself

Ke$ha wears a tattered-up American flag in the video—along with some red sparkly panties—something some critics find distasteful and disrespectful to those in the military.
