An unofficial biopic about Lady Gaga's life is to be turned into a made-for-TV movie for the Lifetime channel.
There are so many things wrong with this scenario. For starters, while Lifetime does love a good rags-to-riches story, there is nothing that can ruin a career faster than being involved in any way with a Lifetime TV movie. Let's see how Gaga handles this one.
Showbiz411 is reporting that the Lifetime production to be titled, "Fame Monster: The Lady Gaga Story" has already begun the early stages of pre-production including the release of a casting notice seeking an actress to play Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga.
Apparently the script will be based off the unofficial Gaga biography, "Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga" and Gaga is not involved in the production at all. I'm sure if she had it her way, she would not want to be represented in a made-for-TV movie. Unless of course they could film it underwater and allow her to make a mermaid cameo appearance where she plays "You and I" on a grand piano made entirely of raw beefsteak and dresses like a man dressing as a woman dressing as an alien.
Moving on, the Gaga biopic has named Ilene Kahn Power as a producer and Norman Snider as the screenwriter. Snider has written a handful of crappy TV movies, including one movie called "Rated X" that actually starred Charlie Sheen. So real winner, this Norman Snider guy.
So far the movie is NOT officially a "go." "Go" is a Hollywood term for "Yeah, we're FOR SURE making the movie," but they put out a casting call for the Gaga character anyways.
They are looking for a girl to play a "bright rebellious Catholic school girl" who can play "her from ages 16 to 22." However, the most ridiculous part is that they want an actress who looks like Gaga, but then adds, "Singing is preferred but not required."
Excuse me? A Lady Gaga biopic where singing is "not required?" Wow, this movie is gonna suck.
They also describe the film as following Gaga as she "learns she must be something more than a talented young girl and to really stand out, she must change. The story covers the ups and downs of her amazing rise and eventually to her transformation to Lady GAGA."
It seems like the movie will mostly follow Gaga's life up to the release of "The Fame," aka her normal phase aka hair bows aka disco sticks and poker faces, so basically all the boring stuff.
The casting description focuses on Gaga's life as a misfit at NYU and a struggling artist on the Lower East Side of NYC.
I wonder who they are going to cast as Gaga, my guess is that it isn't who Gaga would want to play her.
"I would have Marisa Tomei play me," Gaga once answered hypothetically in an interview, "All my friends call me Marisa when I get angry because my New York accent just flies out of my body."
Yah, no way in hell Marisa Tomei can play "16 to 22."
