Thanks to the collective buying power of millions of little monsters everywhere, Lady Gaga sold 1.108 millions copies of “Born This Way,” earning her Billboards top spot of it’s top 200 chart.
Gaga ended Adele’s 9-week sovereignty in the #1 spot. Surprisingly, this is Gaga’s first chart topping album. “The Fame” peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top 200.
“Born This Way” is the largest first week for an album since 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” sold 1,141,000 copies in 2005.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, Gaga is second only to Britney for best first week for a female artist’s album. Britney sold 1,319,000 copies week 1 back in 2000 for her album, “Oops!...I Did It Again.”
Following Gaga on the top 200 chart is Brad Paisley. Interesting, the top two spots are being dominated by country music and intergalactic pop frenzy music.
With Gaga and Adele holding court in the #1 spot, could any male artist possibly enter that spot? Oh I know, just wait until Beyonce’s album drops at the end of the month. King B will take over that chart.
In the meantime, put your paws up for mother monster.
