Leona Lewis performed a chilling version of Snow Patrol’s song “Run” on the season finale of The X-Factor last night, and as the winner of Season 3 of The UK X-Factor, it was a bit of a homecoming for Lewis.
While she performed, images of Season 1 highlights played on the giant screens behind her.
The song began slow and smoldering and gradually built into this dramatic breathtaking version of the song.
If you are still searching for why the heck you know who Leona Lewis is, it’s because of her 2008 breakthrough hit “Bleeding Love.” You’ve heard it, it was on repeat on every pop radio station that year.
This week, Leona just digitally released Hurt: The Ep which includes covers of songs from Nine Inch Nails, Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows.
Lewis was actually mentored by Simon Cowell when she won The X Factor in 2006, making it the last time anyone Cowell had mentored had won the show until Melanie Amaro won last night.
"I can remember being in this position with her at the very same stage of this competition,” says Cowell of Leona Lewis, “Thank God she won. She is a brilliant artist.”
Leona Lewis is the only UK X-Factor winner to achieve true cross-over appeal and success outside the UK. Last years winner on UK The X Factor was someone named Matt Cardle, and before him was Joe McElderry and have you heard of them both? Didn’t think so.
