It's almost time to bid Lil Wayne farewell! The rapper is heading to prison on February 9th, and he played his last hometown concert before getting locked up.
Weezy played to a sold-out crowd in New Orleans on Monday night, arriving to the Arena to a thunderous applause. According to the Associated Press, he told the crowd, "I'm nothing without you."
Younger fans at the show talked with reporters, and one one fan in particular said, "It's kinda sad, the stereotype and that he fell into it."
The 27-year-old rapper pleaded guilty in October to a weapons possession charge and will be sentenced February 9th. His plea deal calls for a year in jail.
The charge stemmed from a 2007 traffic stop of his tour bus in New York when authorities said they smelled marijuana, and as they approached, he tossed aside a bag with a loaded .40-caliber handgun.
Another fan compared Lil Wayne to fellow rapper T.I., who was just released from prison on similar charges. "I hope Lil Wayne will follow in T.I.'s footsteps," said the fan. "T.I. promised to turn his life around. Lil Wayne can do the same thing."
We sure hope he does! He is so talented, yet so prone to getting in trouble! Maybe a stint in the big house is exactly what he needs!
