Madonna Accuses Lady Gaga of Plagiarism

Well, basically. In an interview on 20/20 with ABC’s Cynthia McFadden, Madonna finally breaks her silence about Lady Gaga.

When Gaga first put out her hit song, “Born This Way” nearly everyone heard this song and said, “Well, this sounds like a Madonna song.” Now, in one of her first TV interviews in a long while, 20/20 got into the deep questions right away asking Madonna what she felt about Gaga’s single “Born This Way” when she heard it.

Madonna, who apparently owns many thesauruses says, “It feels reductive.”

McFadden asked if that was a good or bad thing and Madonna simply smiled and chugged from her oversized coffee mug after saying, “Look it up.”

Well, I looked it up and basically it means copying something else but making it worse or simplifying it.

That’s not all Madonna had to say about Gaga. We can’t tell if she’s being coy or if she is actually appalled at how much inspiration Gaga has stolen from Madonna, but either way, it’s not a compliment.

“I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. Sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well done. I can’t really be annoyed by, or insulted by it. Obviously, I influenced her,” says Madonna.

Madonna just can’t give a compliment. How does she tell her kids that they are doing a good job? Lourdes, I see that your room is cleaner than it was before. I am not pleased nor am I upset by this. Obviously, you listened properly.

However, when 20/20 continues to pry into Madonna’s true feelings on Gaga, she only says, “She is she and I am me.”

Other than sounding super cryptic, she did say that when she heard “Born This Way” she was reminded of her own song, “Express Yourself.”

“When I heard it, I said, that sounds very familiar,” reveals Madonna.
