The Madonna vs. Lady Gaga feud is so last year. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise then that someone like Madonna can’t let go of a topic this old and tired. On Saturday night, the legendary entertainer dedicated her song “Masterpiece” to the legendary entertainer in-the-making.
“I’m going to dedicate this next song to Lady Gaga,” Madonna said at the Boardwalk Hall venue in Atlantic City. “Do you want to know something? I love her, I love her. I do love her. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. One day, very soon, we’re going to be on stage together. Do you think I’m kidding?”
The Material Girl clearly isn’t ready to surrender her Queen of Pop crown yet. The rivalry was sparked following the release of Gaga’s “Born This Way” single last year, which sounded suspiciously similar to Madge’s recognizable hit “Express Yourself.”
And if you didn’t notice or remember it, the pop icon has been harking on it all throughout her tour. Recently she’s been treating her audiences to covers of “Born This Way” that seamlessly blend into “Express Yourself” as if to prove the obvious point: Lady Gaga grew up listening to Madonna because Madonna is older than Lady Gaga.
Gaga acknowledged the referential nature of her act almost a year ago to the Daily Mirror, saying, “Madonna is a wonderful influence on me. I feel blessed to have grown up with a powerful, blonde woman to show us the ropes. It’s all down to her that I’m able to do what I do.”
