VH1l has taken a poll and has ranked the 100 Greatest Women in Music and Madonna came out on top.
Ok, I love vintage Madonna, sure, everybody does. Everybody loves “Vogue” and “Like A Virgin” in the same way that everybody loves “Hit Me Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears. It’s just like, duh, you’re supposed to like it because you are American.
But sometime around her daughter Lourdes’ birth and Madonna’s obsession with Kabbalah was when Madonna started to, how do I put this lightly, uhmm change.
“Ray of Light” was the first album I ever bought and I remember being super disappointed in it, “I turned 10 for this sh-t!?” I remember thinking when I heard the album as a pre-adolescent with obviously refined tastes in music.
So anyways, Vh1’s top 100 list wraps up the greatest music artist from the last 20 years, meaning all the artists on the list have had to release music after 1990. The rest of the Top 10 is filled out by artists like Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Adele, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, and Pink.
Ok, most of those artists make sense. Britney Spears narrowly missed the cut-off, landing at #11 and Rihanna came in all the way at #20, getting beat out by artists like Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and TLC.
