Mariah Carey to Be Honored at BET Honors Awards

"BET Honors" will return for it's fifth year honoring African Americans who have achieved greatness in music, the arts and education, and will take place next month at the Warner Theater in Washington, DC on January 15.

Receiving awards for the first time in the shows 5-year history, include diva songstress Mariah Carey and the legendary Stevie Wonder. Carey will be given the award for Best Entertainer and Stevie is honored in the musical arts category.

Other stars being honored that night include Spike Lee for his work in the film industry, poet Maya Angelou, the Tuskegee Airmen and inspirational coach Beverly Kearney.

The event will be hosted by actress Gabrielle Union. Past recipients at this awards show include Jamie Foxx, Iman, Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah, Sean "Diddy" Combs. Performers for this years shows will be announced in upcoming weeks, but past performers included Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, and Patti Labelle to name a few.

Also, this isn't the only recent award for Mariah Carey. Carey hasn't released a new album since 2009, so to pick up a couple awards without an album out is pretty impressive.

She was just awarded a humanitarian prize in recognition of her charitable efforts with disadvantaged children at the Noble Gift Gala in London. Carey's charity work has focused on helping disadvantaged children, and apparently she's doing a killer job - since the event was pretty high profile!

Carey received the award from Eva Longoria and tweeted her the next morning, "You're a wonderful humanitarian and a beautiful person. Thank you so much for your kind words at the charity even last night."

In other Mariah Carey news, she's got a Holiday single out with John Legend. Technically the song came out last Christmas when she released a Holiday Album, but didn't want the song to go to waste so she re-released it this year and made a video to go along with it.

The video features Mariah and John Legend playing the piano and singing, seductively (is there any other way for Mariah Carey?) and the video is intercut with scenes from the Peanuts, aka Snoopy and the gang.

The video is cute; it's kind of like a home video, if Mariah and John Legend were a couple and if that couple really liked watching Snoopy videos.
