Mariah Carey Confirmed for X-Factor

Mariah Carey will appear on the new Simon Cowell singing competition "The X Factor." This new show, which is supposedly going to be American Idol on crack, will debut on September 21 on Fox.

Already filled with a judging panel that includes Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and someone named LA Reid; Simon Cowell announced that Mariah Carey will be joining the show.

It's unsure what she will be doing on the show, there isn't enough room for another oversized chair behind the judges table, but Cowell just wants her on The X-Factor regardless. Apparently, Carey will appear as a guest "mentor" for Cowell.

A source says that "each of the judges will tape something with mentors they have selected and Simon has selected Mariah to do that with him. The judge's mentor the talent they pick and she will be working with them," explained the source.

So let me get this straight, "The X-Factor" pairs the talent with the judges just like "The Voice" did. Then, those judges bring in guest celebrity mentors to mentor the judges who are in turn mentoring the talent? What?! My brain can't handle any of this, I'm turning off my TV for the next several months. Someone tell me when "The X-Factor" is over.

"Mariah is definitely confirmed to be a part of X Factor," continues the source, "She is confirmed to tape something with Simon Cowell at the judge's homes."

Simon has previously spoke of his desire to have Carey on the show, "We have to find a role for her. I'm a huge fan of hers - not just as an artist, but as a person, and I love her to death."

Abdul, Scherzinger and now Carey? Does Cowell understand how much estrogen that is for one show? I think he does. "We just can't shut Paula and Nicole up," says Cowell, "Add Mariah into the mix as well and you won't even have anyone singing."

Hey let's add Nick Cannon into the mix too? Why not?! Between Mariah climbing the vocal scales and trying to pitch her fashion line and Nick Cannon bombing on jokes, we could just call it the Mariah Carey variety hour. America doesn't need another singing competition! America needs Mariah Carey!

Apparently the format of X-Factor is that during the final stage of auditions, the contestants will go to the judges houses to audition. During this round of auditions, celebrities will assist the judges in choosing the top talent. In the UK series, stars like, Kylie Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia and Sharon Osbourne assisted during the "judges houses" round.

During every season of UK X Factor, Cowell has used the singer Sinitta as his guest judge, but since she's not famous enough for the US, it looks like he's replacing her with Mariah Carey.

Last month Cowell announced that Mariah wanted a big position on the show, " her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with." he says.
