Despite releasing three different versions, Mariah Carey’s new single, “Triumphant (Get ‘Em),” has been doing pretty terribly in its debut.
On the Billboard Bubbling Under Chart (the chart for songs not quite up to Hot 100 snuff), she debuted at 15. For lots of artists that’s not such a bad debut.
But Mariah Carey, who has been riding on the sort-of publicity her new American Idol judging gig, twins and NFL performance and has also has 18 number one Billboard singles and has won 7 Grammy’s, debuting at No. 15 is not acceptable.
Especially when that No. 15 (aka No. 115 on the Hot 100) puts her forty-three spots behind a song that Taylor Swift debuted during a webchat and four behind a bonus cut from Beyonce’s year-old album 4.
It doesn’t bode well for Mariah’s new album, set for release in March 2013, if her lead single craps out this badly. In an interview about the debut of “Triumphant,” Mariah said "…the main thing is [that] I'm not trying to follow any particular trend, I want it to be well received. I want to stay true to myself and the music that I love and make the fans happy.”
Looks like that might have been a bit of a misstep, Mimi—your fans aren’t impressed.
