The King of Pop is coming to a Pepsi can near you!
As part of their “Live For Now” campaign, Pepsi has announced a partnership with the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music in an attempt to milk even more profits out of pop legend’s epic, epic career.
The deal – dubbed “BAD 25” - comes at a convenient time for the soda giant, as it has been 25 years since the Jackson’s multi-platinum BAD album release and record-breaking tour. Iconic music, live events, special edition merchandise, and – yes – Michael Jackson Bad Pepsi cans (one billion to be exact) will celebrate the half-century anniversary.
This is great news for fans that have decided that the “Billie Jean” singer’s music just isn’t enough. You can now drink from the artist’s face.
Pepsi’s “BAD 25” can is a classic Pepsi blue with a silhouetted sketch of Michael Jackson in a classic Michael Jackson pose. Shoppers can expect the product in their supermarkets later this month.
“This unique global partnership, around such a legendary music milestone, invites Pepsi fans from around the world to experience Michael Jackson,” said Brad Jakeman, chief creative officer of PepsiCo Global Beverages Group. “Pepsi has always been at the forefront of pop culture, helping to shape the music landscape.”
Fun fact… PepsiCo Global Beverages Group has previously been recognized as being at the forefront of lighting Michael Jackson’s hair on fire.
In 1984, during the filming of a Pepsi commercial, pyrotechnics caused Jackson’s Jheri curl to go up in flames. Jackson suffered second and third degree burns - and a serious bald spot - as a result.
Ah, Pepsi… A refreshing choice for after we light your head on fire.
