Miley Cyrus Folks It Up in New Song

Miley Cyrus has been making headlines for the new direction she’s taking with her hairstyle these days, but what about her music?

Miley released the preview of some brand new music to the tune of a cover. In the live acoustic performance, she sits against the side of an outdoor swimming pool with two male guitarist, singing Melanie Safka’s “Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma.”

Her mature voice is perfect for the smoky track and sounds far beyond her 19 year old years—a folk song that’s a far folk mountain cry from her “Hannah Montana” years. She proves here she can sing radio-friendly Top 40 pop and blues-y country ballads, which like her Disney TV character sang, is “the best of both worlds.”

Currently she’s working on a new album, which she says is going to be “a sick record,” telling Billboard, “I've been in so many sessions and just kind of bunkering down and working really hard and perfecting everything. I've never really had time to do that, to kind of have my record kind of 'done' and then sit there and make it until it's perfect." She’s been receiving help from producer extraordinaires like Pharrell Williams in order to capture a “Motown” vibe on her upcoming LP, which she says will be out sometime later this year.

Oh, and as for that much talked about hair…Miley shot this video months before her new platinum blondeness.
