Nicki Minaj premiered a new video today and it features the wig-wearing rapper in her natural habitat: neon, fluorescent EVERYTHING. As she would in the wild, Nicki is show slinking her way through this visual safari just as her spirit animal (a mutated chameleon-python-Geico-Gecko) would.
“The Boys” serves as the lead single off her soon-to-drop Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up, and as for the song itself, it’s sort of all over the place.
The way an arcade video game is all over the place when it starts to glitch. If you haven’t heard the haywire track yet that features your favorite one-hit wonder Cassie, just grab a Bop It toy (make sure the batteries are kind of dying) then throw it down a flight of stairs and listen to whatever sounds it happens to make. Same song.
That said, this Looney Tunes chorus of malfunctions actually works better in the video when coupled with the choppy editing, Cassie, eye-popping set design, Cassie, luxury cars, mismatched outfits, and did we already mention Cassie?
If you’re really, really good at Magic Eyes, then you might be able to decipher the narrative hidden in this Colin Tilley flipbook of song, dance, and obnoxious wallpapers. The clip opens on a newspaper headline reading that a “Barber shop burns down after ‘freak’ flame thrower accident,” men burnt to a crisp in a salon, and the preceding events.
