Women are dominating music this year. Don’t believe me? Just check out the nominations for the 2011 American Music Awards. Artist of the Year has five nominees, with only one being a guy: Lil Wayne, Adele, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga are all competing for the big title.

Nicki Minaj and Pitbull headed to the J.W. Marriott Los Angeles LA LIVE on Tuesday morning to reveal this year’s AMA nominations. At the event, Katy Perry and Pitbull were also announced as performers at this year’s show.

And good news, all those tears paid off for Adele. She led the show this year with four nominations. Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, The Band Perry, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry all have three nominations. Step up your game, guys. Maybe write some sadder songs.

The Pop/Rock category has also been taken over by the ladies. Favorite Album nods go to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, Rihanna’s Loud and Adele’s 21. Favorite Female Artist nominees are Lady Gaga, Adele and Katy Perry. The Award for Favorite Male Artist could go to Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars or Pitbull.

Favorite Artist in the category of Rap/Hip Hop includes Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West.

In the Country Music category, Favorite Female Artist nominees are Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift. Swift is also up for Favorite Album for Speak Now.

Alternative Rock nominees are Foo Fighters, Black Keys and Mumford & Sons.

So this is where you come in. The winners are determined by online voting, at the AMA voting website. Orly Adelson, executive producer of the show, and Larry Klein, AMA producer, said in a statement:

“The highly talented group that makes up this year’s 2011 AMA nominees have dominated the charts, airwaves and pop culture all year long. We are excited to congratulate and celebrate all of the artists on American music’s biggest night.”

Sprint is also presenting the New Artist of the Year award. Voting takes place on the AMA voting website as well. And if Rebecca Black wins, I’m moving to Canada.

The 39th annual American Music Awards will take place form L.A. LIVE’s Nokia Theatre Sunday, November 20th. The full list of nominees is as follows:
