Nicki Minaj is getting up close and personal in her new video.
“Right By My Side” takes a step back from the intensity we’ve come to expect from songs like “Starships.”
The new video is stripped down to its bare bones. Void of effects and jarring color schemes, the images seem to let the lyrics do the talking.
“I can’t say no more than this / I just hope your heart hear me now / Gotta let you know how I’m feeling /You own my heart he just renting” the lyrics chime.”
But possibly more interesting is her PDA with fellow artist Nas.
The on camera couple is by each other’s side throughout. Together they go shopping, dine at an outdoor café, and buy each other gifts. There’s plenty of groping and the song concludes with a romantic kiss.
Minaj and Nas (it rhymes!) have such crazy on-screen chemistry one cannot help but wonder if this video is love dipping into reality.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Nicki getting close to her male hip-hop counterparts. Previously in videos, Minaj has been paired with the likes of Drake and 2 Chainz.
Chris Brown makes an appearance as well, but he keeps his hands to himself in this one. Breezy simply holds down the male verse.
“I've been away, pay attention/I’m pouring out my heart girl” he sings.
Minaj’s sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 upon its April 3, 2012 release. She’s currently on the road for her world tour under the same title, which will continue throughout the summer.
