Olly Murs went from inspiring “the easiest yes I’ve ever given” when he covered Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” in 2009—no walk in the park feat when auditioning for Simon Cowell on Britain’s The X Factor—to two double platinum albums and three #1 singles in the UK. Not too shabby to date. Not too shabby, right?
Next Friday he’ll appear on ABC’s Good Morning America with his Top 40 track “Heart Skips a Beat” featuring Chiddy Bang. If you miss it though, surely it’ll be his pop tune “Troublemaker” with a little help from hitmaker Flo Rida that should help the young voice crossover the Atlantic to American airwaves.
He also spent this past summer opening for the sold-out US tour of One Direction.
Daytime television. Flo Rida. One Direction. It’s sort of the perfect storm for the UK singer-songwriter looking to just share his brand of singing and songwriting with a larger audience.
“I am so excited that I am getting the chance to release my music here in the US,” says Olly. “It’s been brilliant to collaborate with both Chiddy and Flo Rida on this album and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it!”
Hear that? Not just “amazing” or “awesome” or any other word we Yanks use to describe any little once-in-a-life opportunity. It was “brilliant.”
If you follow European fashion, you may have already seen his modeling work as the face of NewYorker clothing store’s spring/summer 2012 line, as well as Robbie Williams’ label Farrell for autumn/winter 2012.
The debut US album Right Place, Right Time will hit stores on December 4.
