The guys from One Direction are heading straight to the bank. The hybrid of “X Factor” contestants who make up the behemoth singing group—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik—have reeled in a conglomerate pay day of $42 million (£26.3 million) this year.
Together for only two years, and at just a median age of a tender 19, this places the super group in the dead center of the Heat Rich List—the annual
rankings of the richest British entertainers under 30 years of age—for the first time.
The figure takes into consideration every TV show, movie, record sale, and product endorsements. Not a single backpack, heart shaped locket, coffee mug, charm bracelet, and key chain was left unaccounted for.
They’re still in a far, far away make-believe kingdom of untouchable riches when compared to the chart leader Daniel Radcliffe’s $85.2 million.
Collectively they barely out rank Adele, Rupert Grint, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, and someone named Katie Melua, but when you break down that co-dependent $42 million evenly between them it puts them out of the Top 10 entirely—a measly $8.4 million a boy member’s soul (the going rate these days). Clearly, they’re worth NOTHING without each other.
Either way, they're not letting every pound go to their head. Louis recently hosted and played a charity football match for his home team the Three Horse Shoes.
Here’s the complete Top 10 of British stars compiled by a panel of industry experts:
