One Direction Makes History With Album Charts

Five 19-year-olds from Britain have just made Billboard Chart history.

Boy band One Direction are the first British group to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. Not even the Beatles have that honor! One Direction is better than the Beatles! Yes, quote me on that!

The bands first album “Up All Night” made it to the #1 spot with opening week sales of 176,000.

It’s no surprise these boys are so popular. Take the hair styling and swaggyness of Justin Bieber and combine it with the sartorial sense of the Jonas Brother circa 2008 plus the sheer mayhem of N*Sync during the “Dirty Pop” era and you’ve got One Direction.

The last UK import to even come close to One Direction’s numbers was The Spice Girls whose 1996 debut album “Spice” made it to the #1 spot on the Albums chart after 14 weeks.

One Direction’s debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful” was number 28 on the Hot 100 singles chart, which was also the highest entry for a British band on a US chart since the Spice Girls “Wanabe” in 1997.

Anyways, expect to hear more from these British kids in the coming days, months, and years. Actually make that 1 year. Once these boybanders turn 21, they basically peak. I mean, look at Aaron Carter’s career.
