One Direction will forever be One Direction…
Following a dispute with an California-based punk band by the same name, One Direction will not be required to change their group’s now famous title. Instead, as the result of losing a legal suite, the American group has agreed to be the ones to rename.
Moving forward, the America group will go by the name Uncharted Shores. So fear not, Directions… The “One Thing” songsters will be allowed to continue to record under the moniker One Direction.
According to the Associated Press, both bands have released statements claiming that they are pleased with the settlement…
The lawsuit against the more famous of the One Direction groups dates back to April of this year when the American group sued their UK counterparts, seeking $1 million in damages and royalties.
Reportedly, the US-based group has since received a hate mail and even death threats form devoted fans of the UK group.
Simon Cowell’s company, Syco, countersued, claiming that the California musicians knew about UK’s 1D superstardom at the time of their formation and not the other way around…
Mum’s the word on what the Americaners actually got out of the settlement.
In addition to being able to maintain their title, One Direction will be making their VMA performance debut on MTV this week. 1D is up for two Moonmen awards at the event, including “Best New Artist” and “Best Pop Video” for their hit single “What Makes You Beautiful,” The 2012 Video Music Awards airs Thursday, September 6 at 8/7c on MTV.
