Here’s a dance routine you won’t be seeing on the “Dancing With the Stars” stage anytime soon.
Pink’s (or are we back to referring to her as “P!nk”? 10+ years later, and I’m still not clear on this!) latest music video was reportedly her favorite ever to shoot and following it’s premiere this morning online it’s hardly a secret why. Rock hard abs-ly a secret, to be specific…
In the 4-minute video, Pink does feats of dance moves strength just short of being suspended twelve stories in the air in a Cirque du Soleil harness while lit on fire.
With muscle-y dance partner Colt Prattes, the duo get tangled up in a visceral interpretive dance, choreographed by The Golden Boyz. It’s a powerful performance that relies on nothing but the human body and sheer movement and the result is pop music video poetry.
The passionate pair push, pin, pirouette, clutch, grip, spin, rock, et al. their way through the great indoors of a spare house—a tarantula’s crawl of raw choreography that escalates to choking, throwing chairs at each other, and destroying tables. And you thought YOU were in some intense games of Twister back in the day. They’re also covered in rainbow colored Pixy Stix powder the whole time they’re at each other’s throats because there’s beauty in the battle and the chaos and symbolism.
All of it makes for a hearty meal, but “Try” is also an anti-cereal box of Kix: Mom Not Approved. Pink tweeted of the Floria Sigismondi-directed video that it left her mama “speechless” and “uncomfortable” seeing her daughter in such compromising positions.
We’re glad she dared to go there though since good art should leave you a little “uncomfortable.”
