Prince is coming back with a vengeance! He’s releasing not one, not two, but three albums this year! And he’s doing it all without a record label. Because when you’re Prince, do you really even need one?
He’s had a tough time with major record labels, and now says, “The gatekeepers have to change.”
According to the LA Times, he’s not in final negotiations to distribute the albums with a major retailer, and through an interactive website. The three albums are named MPLSOUND, Lotus Flower, and Elixir. The first is an electronica album, the second is a tribute to the electric guitar, and the third is sexy and mellow.
Elixir features the vocals of Prince’ protégé Bria Valente. Of that album, Prince says, "We got sick of waiting for Sade to make a new album. This music is nasty, but it's not dirty. There's no profanity. It isn't promoting promiscuity. [Valente is] singing about her lover, who could be her partner for life."
Sounds like quite the mix of different sounds! Take that Beyonce and Sasha Fierce! We can’t wait for all three to come out!
