Radiohead Announces 2012 Tour Dates

Three years of waiting is finally paying off. Radiohead fans, prepare to…do whatever it is you do when you get excited.

The band has announced their first extensive tour since 2008. On their website on Monday, Radiohead listed ten dates stretching through March 2012, and yes, more are on the way.

The tour will be in honor of their latest album, The King of Limbs, and it will kick off February 27 in Miami, Florida. See? Even Radiohead wants to party in Miami. From there, the tour will head to Florida, Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Colorado and Arizona. And opening for the band is "Other Lives", an indie group from Oklahoma. And because "indie" isn't a discernable genre, here's a little bit about their music: it's described as "dynamic, orchestral pop." Should be a welcomed act for Radiohead fans.

In October, Radiohead's guitarist, Ed O'Brien, first announced that the band will be on tour for most of 2012:

"We'll be on the road from the end of February to November and we'll be playing in both the UK and US, the usual ports of call."

O'Brien also added that this tour will be different from their 2008 tour, In Rainbows:

"Last time we went out if felt very much like In Rainbows and a greatest hits…this time it's going to be predominantly from this record and the last record and then see which songs fit around that."

So let me translate. If the only Radiohead song you know is "the one from that Facebook movie," you probably shouldn't bother going. For actual fans, you better start memorizing that album so you can sing along.

Meanwhile, the band is auctioning off a signed guitar to raise money for the charity Billie Butterfly Fund. The organization is trying to raise money for four year-old Billie Brainbridge, who has been stricken with an inoperable brain tumor.

O'Brien donated the guitar, which was used during the recording of Kid A and Amnesiac. All five members of Radiohead have signed the guitar, and it includes a handwritten letter of authenticity from O'Brien, which reads:

"It was bought in the summer of '98, just prior to us going into record the albums which came out as 'Kid A' and 'Amnesiac'. It was pretty much the only guitar I used at that time. It's also been gigged a lot, up to and including the 'In Rainbows' tour."
