The Dream: It Was Rihanna's Idea to Work with Chris Brown

When we heard that Rihanna and Chris Brown had collaborated on two different tracks together, we were all kind of like “Omigod” and “be careful” and also “Did she forget about 2009!”

Producer The-Dream is a longtime collaborator and friend of Rihanna and says he was very hesitant when Rihanna announced she wanted to collaborate with Chris Brown on the remix to her song “Birthday Cake.”

However, The Dream admits that Rihanna is no idiot and apparently knew what she was doing, and knew the kind of backlash she would get for making music with Brown again.

“She’s pretty smart,” says The Dream, “The same questions that went through my mind, and I’m an artist also, had to have gone through hers.”

As long as Rihanna has a twitter account she can do whatever she wants. If anyone gives her grief for her duet with Brown, all she has to do it tweet, “haterz stay pressed #truth,” and all is well again.

The Dream admits he was shocked when he heard about their collaboration, but trusted Rihanna to not be “crazy.” Which is kind of ridiculous, because he’s talking about the girl who regularly doesn’t wear pants, humps guys in cars in Irish farmers fields, and probably washes her face with beer.

“When she raised the question to me, I know she’s not crazy. So my thought was you’ve been thinking about this, you’ve already thought it out, so evidently you know what reaction you gonna get.”

The Dream also adds that the song “was Rih’s idea.”

“For me, it’s just music,” says The Dream, “two talented people doing a record together, doing two records together, and that’s what it was. It wasn’t about an incident that happened. The true thing really is to forgive, and you want to believe in people.”
