Guess Riri threw a little “Cockiness” into her “Music Video of the Year” award acceptance speech last night.
After winning top honors for “We Found Love” at the VMAs, the grateful songstress forgot to thank a very visible collaborator on the chart topping song: DJ Calvin Harris.
Harris was a huge influence on the track, providing an electro-hook that was heard around the world.
It’s a funny and awkward situation that can’t be totally chalked up to an out-of-sight out-of-mind excuse — the 28-year-old DJ was there all night as the show’s on-site turntablist.
They also opened the show together with rapper A$AP Rocky just a mere 120 minutes before.
Harris was quick to tweet about Rihanna’s short term memory loss:
Clearly it’s all in good humor, though, and isn’t taking the slip up to serious heart. See, he ‘lol’-ed!
The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for ten non-consecutive weeks, making it longest running number single of last year. It even surpassed “Umbrella,” the song that shot Rihanna to superstardom, as the Barbadian’s longest running single.
We’re hopeful they’ll make up and find love again with another collaboration some day.
