We are finally seeing the video for the Rihanna single that caused her so much drama in Ireland. Let's see if it measures up to all the hype.
Rihanna debuted the video for her first single, "We Found Love" off her upcoming 6th studio album, "Talk That Talk." While the song is a house-music type Calvin Harris produced track, the video is actually an intense look at romance and drug addiction. I was expecting leotards, strobe lights and sexy male back-up dancers, but you're not going to find any of that here.
The video features a voice over from some Irish actress going on about how love is a drug and without that special someone in your life you're unimportant or hopeless and some other emo sh-t that teenagers write about on their Tumblers.
The video is kind of an homage to hipster love. Rihanna and her "love interest" boxer-turned-model Dudley O'Shaughnessy (who she was rumored to have hooked up with) do a variety of twenty-something indie kid things like go to a skate park, makeout at a fast food restaurant, get into a mud fight, go to crappy casinos, get into a soda fight at a grocery store, smoke weed and eventually do a bunch of prescription narcotics and hook up.
No seriously, did she write this song while at Coachella or waiting in line at an Urban Outfitters. Oh who am I kidding, Rihanna doesn't write her own music.
Rihanna tweeted about the video, "We've never done a video like this before. This is probably one of the deepest videos I've ever done. It's all about love and love being like a drug...you definitely get that from this. The good feeling of it and and the dangers of it. That's what this video is about."
Eventually Rihanna and her onscreen lover start fighting and everything sucks. Her model boyfriend is strung out in their crappy apartment. They hit each other and she packs her bags and leaves.
Is it just me or does her on-screen boyfriend look a LOT like Chris Brown a la when Chris Brown had bleach blonde Dennis Rodman hair?
While filming the video in a field in Ireland, Rihanna was scolded by a local farmer for being too racy. That moment appears at about the 1 minute mark in the video where she and her lover park their DeLorean type hipster car in the middle of a corn field (How did it get out there? No idea) and make out in the passenger seat. This is what pissed off the farmer and he called it "inappropriate." He asked them to leave and they did, but luckily they still got the footage for this scene.
