Welsh Composer Paul Mealor had quite a task ahead of him when he was asked in December to compose music for the upcoming royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton.
“I almost fell over when I heard the news,” Mealor said.
But with only a few months ahead of him, there was no time for fainting. Mealor composed a new piece, Ubi caritas, which takes from a Christian hymn that was originally in Latin.
“The words…mean ‘where charity and love are. God is there. Let us come together in God’s love and let us love each other with a sincere heart,” Mealor says.
He describes the composition as “gentle, delicate and meditative.” Well, let’s hope so. We’ll leave the rocking out to Beyonce and Jay-Z, who are rumored to be performing for the royal couple later on tonight.
Let’s just hope Jay-Z doesn’t sing “99 Problems”.
