Season 10 American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, and runner up Lauren Alaina are enjoying their newfound glory on the Billboard music charts.

These two young country poptarts debuted in the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Scotty’s single “I Love You This Big,” debuted at #11 on the Hot 100 chart today. Lauren Alaina’s cover of “Like My Mother Does” entered the chart at #20.

McCreery sold double the amount of downloads of his single in its first week than last years American Idol winner, Lee DeWyze, right after his own win. On the real, I have no idea who Le DeWyze is, and I don’t think anyone who watched Season 9 last year does either.

To continue kicking poor Lee DeWyze while he’s down, Scotty’s “best-of” Idol album sold 23,000 copies last week. DeWyze’s similar best-of album sold 2,000 copies in all of last year. Ouch.

Sucks to not be a 17-year-old country crooner, I guess.

What other past Idols have achieved this kind of chart fame? Season 5 winner, Taylor Hicks, winning single debuted at #1 in June 2006 on the Hot 100 chart.

MTV asked the two what we can expect from both of their debut albums.

“It’s gonna be a good ol’ country album,” explains McCreery. Alaina, however, is planning for her album to be a collection of europop, heavy metal, and hardcore rap. Kidding, obviously. No surprise here, but she’s also planning a country album.

“We’re country kids, so we’re gonna make country albums,” Alaina tells MTV.

So that’s what it takes to be a pop star nowadays, huh. Barely legal country stars are takin’ over. Watch as Justin Bieber purchases a ten gallon hat in 3, 2,1…
