Selena Gomez has an entire Britney Spears tribute in her show.
What? Is she qualified to do that? That’s like LMFAO doing a tribute to the Beatles, like, can’t even compare.
Selena should be doing Miley Cyrus tributes, but whatever, homegirlie thought she should tackle the princess of pop.
Gomez had toyed with the idea of doing Taylor Swift and Backstreet Boys covers in her show, but decided on a selection of Britney songs. “We are working on a few cover songs. We are working on a Britney tribute, which I’m so stoked about ‘cause I love Britney....I wanna do a mash-up of all her songs and just go for it,” Gomez tells MTV.
And mash-up she did.
During her show in Florida during her We Own The Night tour, she does a 4 minute medley of famous Britney Spears songs such as “Crazy,” “Baby One More Time,” “Toxic,” “I’m a Slave 4 U” and “Hold It Against Me.”
Sadly, she looked and sounded like someone you hire to come sing covers at your kid’s Bat Mitzvah.
And I know that Gomez is only 19 and not a very veteran performer, but Britney was about the same age when she sang these songs originally and Britney killed it back in the day.
However, Gomez might say “I told you so,” because in an earlier interview with MTV Gomez said she wasn’t going to come close to re-creating Spears’s iconic choreography and style, “I’m not going to even touch Britney! She’s so good. I wouldn’t want to butcher it. I’m just going to pay tribute to her!” says Gomez.
Well, she warned us that she wouldn’t be as good. That’s weird, I guess. She might as well have said, “My show won’t be as good as other shows, but buy tickets anyways!”
