Shakira's hips don't lie, and neither do the Latin Recording Academy, which is why they've named seven-time Latin Grammy winner, Shakira as the 2011 Latin Recording Academy person of the year.
Shakira, who has found success not just in Latin America but the world-over, will receive her prestigious honor on November 9, just a day before the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.
Shakira will be honored at a Gala in Las Vegas where friends and other notable artist will tribute the singer, performing songs from her own catalog of music. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from the honoree gala will benefit Shakira's Pies Descalzos Foundation, a philanthropy that advocates for equal and quality education for all children by creating schools in Colombia.
From her worldwide music appeal, her 2010 World Cup official theme song, and her philanthropic efforts, Shakira is a perfect choice for the Person of the Year award.
"It is truly an honor to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music," says Shakira about this humbling distinction.
Gabriel Abaroa Jr, President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy says Shakira deserves this award because her "incredible talent and artistic integrity and equaled only be her commitment and dedication to philanthropy and selflessly helping those in need."
He also adds, "We are honored to pay homage to this dynamic, socially conscious woman whose illustrious career has touched so many people around the world, both musically and personally."
The Latin Recording Academy was formed 12 years ago to present a Latin Version of the Grammy awards.
At 34, Shakira will actually be the youngest person to receive the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year honoree. She joins the ranks of other artists who've been awarded in past years, including Placido Domingo, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Gilberto Gil, Julio Iglesias, and Ricky Martin.
Shakira has won two Grammys, Seven Latin Grammys, and is currently nominated for three Latin Grammy's including Album Of The Year.
But she's having quite the awesome year, she was also chosen as one of Latina magazine's '15 Latinas We Love' for their 15th anniversary issue. She also has a super hot cougar cub boyfriend, Spanish Soccer player and sometimes model, Gerard Pique.
Shakira even has her own private box seats at Nou Camp when she wants to watch her boyfriend play football for Barcelona.
