Snoop Dogg Recording Reggae Album

It’s about time. Snoop Dogg has had such a long love affair with weed that it’s surprising he never dabbled in reggae. They just seem to go hand-in-hand, you know?

Anyways, the rap icon is trying his hand at singing, and I am very interesting to see how he does D-O-Double-Gizzle in the key of G.

Snoop has been in the studio with DJ Diplo “trying out a new sound.” Diplo reveals that he has already begun production on 18 new tracks for Snoop’s reggae venture.

“Snoop Dogg is an icon, man; he’s bigger than the music,” says Diplo, “What we’re doing is a reggae record. It’s all reggae and he’s singing and he’s doing a f-cking awesome job and I never knew it, but he had his heart in every song.”

This is also a first for Diplo, who is primarily a DJ but is stepping into the producer role for Snoop’s new reggae project.

“We’re going to get back into the production of it next month, and I’m really proud of that record,” says Diplo, “It’s the first record I’ve ever executive-produced and his crew it amazing.”

This new album will be Snoop’s 12th and is set to come out this summer. It’s called “Reincarnation” and Snoop teased MTV with details yesterday without revealing that it was a reggae album, only that we see a new side to the rapper.

“It’s a project where it’s more about the element of surprise,” says Snoop, “it’s special, it’s a real special project to me because it’s like the reincarnation, and birth of me becoming who I really am. I never really knew who I was through the music, I was always a very loving, kind, peaceful person, caring individual, making music to symbolize that person. This record and this project will symbolize that.”
