Taylor Swift took home the top honors at the American Music Awards last night winning the coveted “Artist of The Year” award. If you’re having déjà-vu it’s because Taylor Swift does this at every awards show. And by “does this” I mean she wins the biggest award at every show she goes to.
She got the same award two years ago at the AMA’s. At the 2011 CMA’s this year she was named the Entertainer of the Year. At the 2011 Teen Choice awards she was the Ultimate Choice award. So basically, Taylor Swift is awesome blah blah blah, let’s hear how she still acts surprised about it.
“This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me,” says Swift, “I have no idea what I’m supposed to say – I did not think this was going to happen. Thank you to the fans. Please, never change.”
No really, never change, keep buying her albums while Taylor Swift continues to own four homes before she even turns 22.
She was also named the favorite female artist in the country category, and her 2010 album Speak Now was the favorite country album of the year.
Other artists who won big that night were Adele, who was absent from the festivities as she’s still healing form throat surgery and can’t talk yet. She also swept up three awards, taking home awards for favorite pop/rock female artist, favorite adult contemporary artist and favorite pop/rock album for 21.
However, we have to address the elephant in the room. Lady Gaga was not at the event, she did not perform and she didn’t win anything either. Maybe her reign of influence is finally over? Ahh who am I kidding, Gaga is the next Madonna. We’re gonna have to still care about her for the next 30 years. Uggh.
Nicki Minaj opened the show in an electro routine backed by DJ David Guetta. She did some kind of booty pop routine with some robots I’m sure she stole from the Transformers premiere. She later picked up an award for favorite rap/hip-hop artist and rap album of the year for Pink Friday.
When she picked up her second award of the night, Nicki said, “This one could actually make me cry. There’s so much love in this room.”
She also thanked her fans, whom she has dubbed as “Barbz” as in “Barbies” and kind of stole a cue from Lady Gaga naming her fans “lil monsters.” If Katy Perry starts calling her fans “Dreamerz” as in “Teenage Dream” I might just have to quit listening to music.
