Xtina is embracing her inner punk…
On the new season of NBC’s “The Voice” there will be a brand new mentor with some rock ‘n roll flavor. Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will join Team Christina on Season 3 of the singing competition show.
Armstrong will serve as a mentor to Christina’s teammates. According to the Los Angeles Times, the rocker is a fan of the show and the format that it uses.
“It’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover,” he said.
So far, it’s been “a lot of fun” working with Christina for the “American Idiot” singer. His role will be to help advise singers on Christina’s team.
In addition to Christina, team captains on Season Three will be veterans Cee Loo Green, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton.
Billie Joe will have some serious competition, though. He joins a list of other music industry all-stars as mentors, including Mary J. Blige on Team Cee Loo, Rob Thomas on Team Adam, and the recent addition of Michael Buble on Team Blake.
Buble previously described himself as a “big Blake fan.” Filming has already begun in Los Angeles.
All the hype is in effort to restore the show’s shrinking numbers, and to compete with other high profile judging choices for rival shows. Fox has added Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to the “The X Factor” and, most recently, Mariah Carey to “American Idol” to replace Jennifer Lopez.
The show contest is heating up!
The new season of “The Voice” starts September 10.
