The Tupac hologram at Coachella this weekend has sent the world into a frenzy. Will “Tupac” perform again? Will he go on a world tour? What other artists will come back from the dead to grace the music stage? Michael Jackson? Freddie Mercury? The Notorious B.I.G? Now that we know the power of hologram, the list is endless!
“Famous dead artists can now remain active on the music and entertainment market by setting up tours or events where they would appear in hologram,” says Renaud Skalli, head of Artist & Label relations for My Love Affair a firm that pairs artists with popular brands.
Now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre want to go on a joint tour with Tupac! This is completely possible, because “Tupac” was created by a company called Digital Domain that created Tupac from the ground up.
“This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion. This is just the beginning. Dre has a massive vision for this,” says a rep for Digital Domain.
What that means is, as long as Digital Domain can dream it, Tupac can perform it.
What does this mean for the future of music?
“One could even imagine that this will create a sudden increase in Tupac’s album or single sales,” says Renaud, “Creativity has always been key in order to keep an artist’s (dead or alive) brand active and this is a great proof that the music industry can still offer unexpected and outstanding experiences to its fans and consumers.”
