By now you’ve heard ‘90s rock fixture Stone Temple Pilots has parted ways with frontman and founder, Scott Weiland.
In a brief, one-line statement, the band announced on Wednesday: “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.”
This comes after ongoing rumors that there was trouble brewing in paradise between Weiland and his bandmates, claims the rocker denied profusely to Rolling Stone.
Since news broke, Weiland released the following statement:
“I learned of my supposed "termination" from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be "terminated" from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.”
While this all gets sorted out, we took the liberty of scouring the vast playing field that is YouTube in search of who could fill the band’s open spot. It wasn’t long before we stumbled upon this little gem: a Kansas-based artist who goes by the name “Skip.”
Skip plays in a three-piece “experimental alternative-rock” group, The Fortitude which brings acoustic guitar into the metal realm, drawing from influences like A Perfect Circle and Incubus. More the group here.
Also, while covering STP solo, Skip can wail… If you’re out there reading this, man, hats off to ya’!
