The man who made his name rocking out with drummer Meg White in the White Stripes is heading to the wild wild west. Garage-rock/blues artist Jack White has signed on to score the upcoming Disney film, The Lone Ranger.
You might know this musician for his work in White Stripes radio hits like “Seven Nation Army,” “Hello Operator,” and – most recently – “Icky Thump.” But the Detroit-native rocker has recently branched out to the feature film market.
White’s music has appeared is a slew of recent films, including The Social Network, Zombieland, 2011’s Footloose, and the 2008 James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, where he teamed up with Alicia Keys to produce the duet “Another Way to Die.”
The Lone Ranger will relaunch the legendary television character's role and employ the visual stylings of Pirates of the Caribbean’s director Gore Verbinski. Along with White’s visionary lo-fi sound and hard-hitting guitar riffs, the pair promises be an explosive match.
So, recap… Pirates… Rock-n-roll…
How can you possibly make this film any cooler? Oh, how about Johnny Depp?
Teaming up on the production are Armie Hammer – known for his work in The Social Network – as The Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as the “Tonto,” The Lone Ranger’s infamous Native American companion.
Jack White’s other projects include indie bands like the popular Racontuers and The Dead Weather.
As a music producer, White has collaborated with a range of artists, anywhere from the abrasive Insane Clown Posse to rapper and fellow Detoit local, Black Milk, under his label Third Man Records.
Seriously, Jack White is unstoppable freight train of musical genius. What more can we say?
The Lone Ranger hits theaters in 2013.
