There’s a new fresh prince in the hood…
Now that we are well acquainted with Jaden Smith for his serious acting skills on the big screen, the youngster is surprising us again with his abilities at dropping a rhyme or two… The 14-year-old has unleashed his debut music video “The Coolest.”
With a setting reminiscent of his father Will Smith’s opening music sequence in “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” Jaden does a laid back rap in front of tagged buildings and street art.
The set is inked with more than a smudge of irony for a kid that grew up on private jets and panoramic views…
Rather than walking, Jaden rolls on a moving platform with the camera, giving off a floating effect, as he raps in a black tank top and gold-patterned bandana.
“So just listen while I’m spittin’ / It’s the realest that you gettin’ / And these writtins if you’re messin’ with these stupid kids,” he raps, trailing on the final “S” sound…
In the song he talks about “normal” 14-year-old problems like scoring older girls and guys getting jealous, women sipping on juice boxes, and pool parties.
Whatever the lyrics may be professing, there’s no denying one key detail about Jaden in this re-introduction… This dude’s got swagger - No doubt that the all the time that he’s spent with Justin Bieber has been working in his favor.
And, while it’s not the high-energy his sister Willow delivered, causing viewers to whip their hair back and forth, it’s impossible not to give this street-prancing hit some love.
If you’re like us at Stereotude and enjoy this, fear not because there’s more to come. Jaden’s mixtape, The Cool Café, is is scheduled for a October 1st arrival.
